Yesterday I decided to play some games from my childhood, most of them were flash games, and more specifically, they were click and point mystery adventures from Carmel Games.
My favorite one is The Gatekeeper because I remeber having a crush with the protagonist Matthew when I was a child.
I didn´t remember how short the game was until I played it yesterday with my cousin, the story was a bit floppy too and the final was a cliffhanger that never was continued.
For some reason instead of working i decided to investigate what happened to the devolpment of the game and if the studio was planning of continue it some day.
I just found a blog entry with my same toughts and other details about the game. This was the entry:The Gatekeeper .I agree with most of the things the autor said in his blog, and just like me, a lot of people was waiting for the sequel.
The blog motivated me to search now for Carmel Games and see if they have a place with information of their games, first i found their youtube channel, it olny has walktroughs of their games.
Fortunaly in the description there was links to their social media and own website. The problem was that the website was abandoned and most of the links didn't work.
The Wayback machine was my savior, y could find there their last entry of their blog on February 15, 2020 called Game Over? It says:
Hey guys, Moti’s here with a long overdue update.
So is it really Game Over for CG? Yes, and no.
As we told before, our web games are no longer making any profit, so on December 31st we closed CG and moved on with our lives.
We are no longer in the gaming industry, yet the desire for creating games is still there.
We’ve developed crazy and lovable characters, such as CrazyDad, the Vortex Point trio and Creepo. It’s a real shame we can’t share more of their crazy adventures.
So yes, we still have the passion to make games and tell stories and that is why I’m sure we’ll return some day, hopefully soon.
While we’re on our “forced break”,we will try to come up with something extraordinary, something we haven’t done before.
I don’t know what it is yet, but gotta do it.
So, that’s all for now. I hope we’ll have more downloadable versions of our previous games available soon.
Thank you all for being there for us, for each feedback, comment and email you’ve sent, and thank you very much for your great support over the years.
It’s not over yet
It was really sad for me reading that entry, their games were a strong part of my childhood in internet alongside club penguin and Nelly (another abbandoned flash game which i love for its dark aesthetic). It's been 6 years since that blog entry, and how it looks maybe they could come back but not with sequel of The Gatekeeper
I don't know why i always get obsessed with forgotten games, but they give me the idea of continue the story by myself. The problem is that i don't have any coding knowledge, I barely can draw and i don't know how the story should continue.
I got the idea of sending an email to the studio, it appears in their youtube channel, but first, i don't think they would aswer, and second, if the case they do i and they give me the permission to continue with the game, i'm scared that i can't make the game that i imagine in my head
The game can be played here in New Grounds. Maybe i can turn this into a little project of mine, not paying attention if i success or not, just doing it for fun.
I made this website/blog/digital diary because i know i bother and annoy people with my interests, including friends and family, so i want a safe place to dump all my ideas, dream projects and little researches i make of the things that i like. English is not my first language, but i know if i keep writing even with mistakes i can improve.
